The word No gets lots of negative attention. When you answer No to a question, it can really cause havoc. From the kid in the to store wanting to buy a toy to your boss at work wanting to know if you have met the deadline. So ingrained is the negative connotation of saying No that we avoid using No properly for its positive value. Saying No to that last piece of cake, or saying No to the purchase of a magazine at the store are both very healthy and positive uses of No. This word is the most powerful tool in your self-discipline toolbox.

With most things in our lives, we would greatly benefit from self-discipline. How can you best lose weight? The answer is saying no in the short term to excess fatty foods and low activity lifestyle. How can you save money for a rainy day? The answer is saying no to spending needlessly until you have met your goals. Saying No is easier when it is part of plan to achieve a goal. For example my family has had to say no to expensive dinners with friends due to our budget constraints, but since it was part of a plan to get debt free, we knew it would lead to us being able to say Yes to these dinners in the future. So once you have mastered the word No, and achieved your goals you will be able to enjoy saying Yes in the future. So buck the trend, make a challenge to yourself to say No at least once a day for something keeping you from your goal. You will find the rewards will definitely be worth it.
